Yesterday my sister and I went to the Home and Garden Show in Portland.
There is a lot around our home and garden that I hope to accomplish this year and I thought attending the show would give me some good ideas.
I love gardening.
I love flowers, herbs, and vegetables.
I especially love my roses.
But mostly I would love to be able to grow things and not kill them.
It seems the plants outdoors do fairly well.
But I have never been able to keep indoor plants alive.
There is one exception... my Christmas Cactus.
It is blooming again! It gets a little confused as to when it should bloom.
It bloomed last Thanksgiving at the beginning of Advent.
It is blooming again... just in time for Lent.
But that is okay because I am just glad I have been able to keep it alive and blooming.
Since I seem to do well with 'cactus' I thought I would try my "Brown" thumb at a Tillandsia and some Hens and Chicks.
The Tillandsia is also known as an air plant.
It needs no dirt and very little care.
Sounds like the perfect plant for me!
I should look like this when it blooms.
I like the Hens and Chicks and bought a small starter plant for $3.00.
I suppose I have always liked these because my mom had some. (She probably still has them because unlike me, she has a 'green' thumb). Mom had this cool pot with lots of little openings and the hens and chicks spread and filled the container and I always thought it looked so cool.
Her plant was lush and full and would get little yellow flowers on it.
I had one in Nebraska but left it behind when we moved.
So I am starting anew.
Getting out and about with my sister is a good thing. We discover new places and new projects. And at the same time get a chance to remember the past.
Its all good.
