Taking time to smell the roses.

This month I have had more time to work in the garden.
I like digging in the dirt!
I like the feel of the soil in my hands.
I like watching things grow.

I have never been very good at keeping house plants alive.
I have much better luck with outdoor plants.

I am learning more each year about the best flowers to plant here in Oregon.
Thyme, Rosemary, and Lavendar add to the fragrance of the garden.

I am still learning how to recognize and get rid of the pests.
Slugs weren't a problem in Nebraska or Kansas, but they are here.
I understand they like beer, but I don't have any beer I am willing to sacrifice on the pests.
Roses have always been my favorite flower, in spite of the thorns.
My rose garden in Nebraska had many varieties and colors. It brought much joy on relaxing summer evenings on the front porch.

Planting roses here in Salem has been a priority for me and each year I add a new rose bush. I have found that roses REALLY like the weather here in the northwest and grow and flourish with much less care than in Nebraska.

I am glad I have been home more this month to take the time to smell the roses and get dirty in the garden.

It also gives me great subject matter in which to practice my photography skills!
